Unless DA Co. wants to tell us a bit more about the lineage of 'Hyde Hall', I would take that zone 4 designation with a grain of salt. The one available fact that it is apparently a seedling of 'Graham Thomas' does not inspire confidence.	REPLY

This plant is heat resistant, having large flowers a couple of days after a severe hot spell at Descanso Gardens where peak temperatures reached 116 F/47 C. Some other Austins like Crocus Rose, Queen of Sweden, Heather Austin had small or tiny flowers.	REPLY

I wonder what the hardiness rating of this rose is based on? I doubt that DA has trial grounds in areas with zone 2b climate. Unless this is a descendant of his top secret Therese Bugnet breeding line...	REPLY

I question this myself. I grow more than 50 David Austin varieties and have found this to have poor winter tolerance in zone 5b. Mine (a hedge of 11 plants) are grafted, with the graft planted several inches below grade. I do not cover or protect my roses in the winter and chose Hyde Hall for its advertised hardiness. Winter kill is always significant and recovery growth is uneven making this an unattractive choice for a hedge. The flowers are lovely and plentiful, however this year they are exhibiting proliferation in about two thirds of the blooms.
