Does anyone know if this is more likely to be a diploid, like the original delicately-colored Hybrid Musks, or a triploid like hybrids with modern roses, or tetraploid like the Kordes Hybrid Musks starting with Eva in about 1933?

That is, does any one know what it successfully crosses with?

Or what the parent Francis E Lester is? It's after Eva...

I was glad to have this rose come back (zone 4\5). Delightful scent, too.
2013: This rose is still coming back. I think the zone needs to be changed in the description. It might scare others from trying this rose. It is one of the most fragrant around.

This rose does bloom a lot even with only 3 hours of sun a day. It was in a pot and I transplanted it to a part-shade spot under the outer perimeter of a large tree. I got mine grafted onto Fortuniana from Cool Roses in Florida. The blooms are so lovely. I can't wait until mine gets bigger - for cut flowers!!! So far so good!

Wonderful both from a distance and up close, a great garden rose. Repeats extremely well even in part shade. In this extremely hot and humid area, Lyda Rose is not blackspot-resistant but it performs better than the hybrid musks, which it strongly resembles. However Lyda tends to shed inner and lower foliage so that the loss of leaves is not evident until you see the carpet of fallen leaves at the base. During period of high BS stress, we're seeing about 20-30% foliage loss.
