All these blooms are from one basal break. Originally it was registered as a floribunda, but many rosarian friends said : “ Why don’t you change it to a Hybrid Tea”? So I went ahead and changed the registration. At the local rose show it won ‘King’, second best in show, with a bloom only 4.5 inches dia, the only one open for that show. Disbudded, as I would do to exhibit it as a HT specimen bloom, it produces blooms of 6 inches dia.

Tri-Valley RS, Washington State, 2003 show. This was the first time shown as a "Floating Floribunda" and it won the trophy in this class. Just after this show it was reclassified as a Hybrid Tea. Photo credit : Tony Denton

Vancouver, B.C. Rose Show 2003. This is the first time Buffy Sainte-Marie was shown as a Hybrid-Tea. It was a smaller bloom than average (4 1/2" dia) and to everyone's surprise, it won King of Show (2nd Best) ! Had it been average size of 5 1/2 " (disbudded) it could have won "QUEEN" ! This and all future photos are now taken with digital cameras !!
