Aug- 2007: I purchased both the NEW YORKER & CHRYSLER IMPERIAL, because my grandfather loved his Chryslers, and I have fond memories of riding in both of these models! These (2) bushes are poor examples of rose plants! C.I. is an odd-looking bush that appears to struggle to produce even one droopy head! And it is always a gamble if it will open . . . Both of these are definitely a sad tribute to my Grandfather.

Sorry to hear. I'm in the cold North and Chrysler Imperial is one of my best roses. It blooms in regular flushes and every bloom stands proudly upright.
It might be that your climatic conditions were simply inappropriate for these roses. Chrysler Imperial is still available from many nurseries and vendors because it's so good. We're getting to a point where the last Imperial (though the grandest of K Cars) finished out in 1993 so very few recall the car itself let alone having known anyone with one. My grandparents had New Yorkers and Fifth Avenues. Excellent cars for us.

This rose, on its own roots, has been annoyingly slow to grow. This is its fourth year in my garden and I'm hoping that finally this year it will spurt up and bloom more than one at a time.

I had a grafted plant I got at home depot in the 1990s. Survived until my parents moved houses in 2005

I love this rose (New Yorker). I have had it in my garden for 12 to fifteen years. I love the color, but what I like best is the fact that the petals don't drop soon after the rose blooms but slowly fade on the plant.

This hard-to-find rose is available from Vintage Gardens as an own-root rose. Beautiful true red, non-fading. Does not grow very large. It's reported to do best in warm climates.
