Discovered by Edward Lee Greene (United States, 1896).
Introduced by Unknown in 1898 as 'Rosa oreophila Rydb. Synonym'.

Species / Wild.  

Pink to white.  Moderate fragrance.  5 petals.  Medium, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Fragrant buds.  

Arching, bushy, climbing, suckers on its own roots, upright, well-branched.  Medium, semi-glossy, dark green foliage.  5 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 16" to 4'11" (40 to 150cm).  

USDA zone 5b through 9b.  Vigorous.  plant in partial shade for best color.  produces decorative hips.

Native to high mountains of Utah, Colorado and New Mexico, rare in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, at elevations of 8200 to 12,500 feet/2500 to 3800 meters. Flowers before R. woodsii subsp. manca, which has a partly-overlapping range.
