Pelé... a vigorous Climbing Hybrid Tea with eggshell-white blooms... [Benardella] named this rose after his dog, a Dalmatian whose black and white markings reminded him of a soccer ball, and hence the connection to Pele, the great Brazilian soccer player... It won an [ARS] Bronze Certificate in 1980... Co-Operative Rose Growers in Tyler, Texas, introduced Pelé to the rose-growing public, and it is still commercially available in the United States...
