'Penelope' rose Reviews & Comments
-

My Penelope is frustrating in that it only has 2-3 flushes of bloom per year. Does anyone else have this problem? It gets only morning sun and gets plenty of water during hot spells especially. I also fertilize and mulch this rose. Don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

EveryRose.com says that Penelope's weakness is mildew. Anyone who grows this rose, please comment on your experience with that, one way or the other. Thanks.

We have grown several plants for 10-15 years and I cannot recall ever seeing mildew on it. (Hot, dry summers, mild winters.)

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like your climate is the same as ours, so your input is very helpful.
Anyone else?

'Penelope' can develop Powdery Mildew in areas where mildew is a problem, when drought stressed, and in areas where air flow is restricted.
It's better than most but far from immune. It was better in this regard than 'Prosperity'.

Thanks for your reply. I have a big mildew problem with a few of my roses in the springtime, so I'm trying to avoid getting any more roses that will be so susceptible to it.

You and me both Carolyn. I'm removing my mildew magnets and trying hard to breed the mildew out of my seedlings.
There are very few roses immune to mildew but some are much better than others.

An excellent rose. Very disease resistant, adaptable to many positions, and with a delicious wafting fragrance.
