I wonder if anyone who has grown this rose could comment about the possibility of it being the long-lost 'Madame Desprez'? The descriptions seem alike, and the one illustration we have of the old rose looks somewhat similar.

'Mme D.' apparently could make a good pillar rose. Does "NOCR" seem like it would climb if encouraged? Any other points of similarity or difference?

I also believe this to be Pierre de St. Cyr. the most notable thing about the rose to me here in 7b with hot, hot humid summers, is that when given adequate water it will bloom well in the hot months. The flowers, though not enormous, are lovely. I think it shows a lot of China influence, as some bourbons do.

From the photos, the sepals of the "New Orleans Cemetery Rose" seem a bit longer and leafier than 'Pierre de St. Cyr'. Has anybody grown them side by side?

Tentative, possible ID for this rose is Pierre de St. Cyr based on observing the plant in the SJHRG.

This rose is a vigorous grower. Beautiful fragrant pink blooms which emerge from buds with resiny glands. Loves the hot dry climate of Sacramento. Disease free in our climate.

Jannorcal,

If you update your member profile to include your USDA zone and tell us a little about your garden it helps put your comments in context. Thanks for sharing !

My USDA zone and location are listed under my profile.
However, that is not really relevant as this rose is growing in the Sacramento City Cemetery Historic Rose Garden and not in my private garden. The information accompanying the photos that I have posted lists the location as the cemetery.
