Origin:
Bred by Chevrier (France, before 1826).
Introduced in France by Jean Laffay in 1826 as 'Bonne Geneviève'.
Class:
Hybrid China.  
Bloom:
Dark purple or violet with bright or dark red center.  Green button-eye.  Moderate fragrance.  Average diameter 2".  Medium to large, very double, button-eye bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Climbing, upright.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
'Beauté ethereal' was used as a synonym for both 'Bonne Geneviève', which was purple with a red center, as well as another Hybrid China 'Ethereal' which was rosy crimson fading to pale rose.
