Hybrid Nutkana.  

Scarlet, cherry-red reverse.  None to mild fragrance.  8 to 12 petals.  Average diameter 3.5".  Medium to large, single (4-8 petals), cluster-flowered, flat to cupped bloom form.  Prolific, occasional repeat later in the season.  Small buds.  

Tall, arching, few or no prickles/thorns, upright.  Large, semi-glossy, dark green foliage.  

Height: 8' to 15' (245 to 455cm).  Width: 8' to 15' (245 to 455cm).

USDA zone 5a and warmer.  Can be used for shrub or specimen.  Very vigorous.  can be trained as a climber.  drought resistant.  flowers drop off cleanly.  heat tolerant.  prefers full sun.  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to blackspot , mildew resistant, rust resistant.  Needs little care; relatively disease-free and quite hardy.  Remove unproductive wood every third year or so.  

This was given to me by Ralph Moore as a breeding plant. Date of breeding unknown, likely from the 1990's or earlier. Ploidy unknown but probably a tetraploid. It is extremely fertile as a pollen parent but not very easy to obtain seed from. Very easy to grow and thrives on neglect, its only real downfall is its susceptibility to Blackspot. However, it is never denuded by the disease and outgrows it quickly. The Spring flush is very impressive (see photos) but rebloom is sporadic at best after that. No fragrance.
