Have it, love it. This one is probably the most handsomely foliaged rose I have EVER grown, just gorgeous deep green oily shiney glossy leaves. The blooms appear slightly small for the stem but for my purpose they work perfect. Love the color, nothing really like it comes to mind, the closest is probably "Vintage Wine" the climber from the early 80's.............this is to me a very "masculine" plant, love the name as it is, "Dark Knight" would be an even better fit!

Well, tough to pull me out of my mid-century retro comfort zone, but as I tried Sugar Moon/Koko Loko/Whte Licorice/Black Baccara/Marilyn Monroe (older but for me, new) last year, just ordered this one from Edmunds. Black Baccara ended up being fun as in the worst rose I have ever grown and is now long gone, KokoLoko sadly suffered the same fate for although it was reasonably healthy and quite floriferous, the blooms hid in the foliage and the plant was just not attractive. Sugar Moon is worth another season as it White Licorice although I would not say I am particularly impressed and I prefer Sunstruck over Monroe but Monroe sure can throw and hold a BLOOM! Any longer it is like trying to recapture your "first love" (rose name pun partially intended there) and not sure what a new variety can do to make me fall in love again...........
THAT being said: WHO GROWS DARK NIGHT? PLEASE tell me I will not experience BLACK BACCARA all over agian. Tell me there is a chance the bloom will not be tiny, the growth will not be covered in mildew, the plant will at least put some effort into GROWING..............tell me I should have NOT just bought a band of Flaming Peace or continued to miss VINTAGE WINE the alleged climber................
Columbus, OH, 6a here............long, erratic winters (2 last week, 64 today) and long, tropical wet summers.............no spring or fall to speak of................

goncmg: sorry to hear about your problems with Black Baccara. However, FYI to other gardeners, I've grown it for several years now in Sunset Gardens zone 24 (Southern California), and Black Baccara does great! It's always hit and miss releasing florist roses into the wild....

I haven't seen this one in the open, but under artificial light it is like Pelican's photos. I can imagine it appealing to people who are fans of Abracadabra and Victoriana, and appalling those who are not.
