Gaiety (Garden & Decorative) A superb worker and producer of decorative blooms over an exceptionally long period; The colour varies and is sometimes almost pink in an open flower. Buds are deep and rich in copper and red, and the blooms open coppery red to pink or coppery pink.  The flowering is free to a fault, and the long stems, without many thorns, glossy, healthy foliage, and tall, vigorous growth places this rose among the very best for gardens. Fragrant. Habit 3 or 4. (HT)

'Gaiety' (HT). E. G. Hill, 1926. Vigorous, upright and branching. Large and fairly full. Foliage abundant and disease resisting. Colour: Orange and pink; difficult to describe. A grand garden Rose of continuous flowering habit. Fine for bedding and massing. Makes a big bush, and does well on standards. Prune moderately, and disbud according to Group D.

Harry H. Hazlewood. Out of about a 100 novelties imported for this year, it is difficult to find a dozen worthy of recognition as really improved varieties. The best is undoubtedly ‘Fontanelle’ (E. G. Hill), an American seedling from ‘Mme. Butterfly’ x ‘Souvenir de Claudius Pernet.  From the same cross, and sent out by the same firm, Gaiety promises well as a garden rose.  In many respects it is after the style of 'Shot Silk', with occasional darker orange and red colourings.

New Roses 1928.  Gaiety (HT.  E. G Hill Co. 1926) (‘Madame Butterfly’ x ‘Souv de Claudius Pernet’)  Bud large, long pointed; flower large, semi-double, cupped, very lasting, borne on long stems. Colour orange, Indian red and silver.  Foliage abundant, light glossy green, disease-resistant. Very few thorns. Growth very vigorous; upright, branching; abundant, continuous bloomer.
Somewhat after the style of ‘Shot Silk’.   Promising well.
