....and I liked the red-brown colour and quartered form of Sam McGredy's Colorbreak

p114. Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1985-86 Season.
Colorbreak McGredy 1983. Reddish-brown; 12 reports; 16 bushes; 2 years; 1.5m. 7.1 rating. In Northland, Napier and Wanganui this rose was pointed around 6.0, but in Manawatu, Wellington, Taranaki and Canterbury it received 8.0 points. The low pointing was largely due to the fact that the reporters did not like the colour and found the blooms "undistinguished". Further south, the unusual colour and ruffled and quartered flowers were more appreciated. The bush grows well, is totally healthy and has attractive foliage. Wellington says it is very floriferous, has a slight perfume and is worthwhile so, evidently, you either like or dislike the colour and it appears to do better in cooler areas.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1984-85 Season. Floribundas.
Colorbreak. McGredy 1983 10 reports, 10 bushes, 1 year, 1 metre, 7.6 rating. A very new release, and grown fairly widely already. The browny red, russet red or brick red coloured blooms are unusual and generally please, reports say. The colour does vary a little with age but never becomes unpleasant. The blooms tend to quarter and open flat. There is a fragrance. The blooms come in neat clusters. Rain can spoil them. All report the bush to be healthy. The foliage is an attractive dark green on a well formed handsome bush. The blooms' repeat is good. These reports come in from Northland down to Tirnaru, a pretty good average, so this must be a good rose in this brown colour.
