Capitaine Williams Before 1843. Habit: shrub less upright than typical Gallicas; quite large branches; strong and numerous prickles, very red on young branches. Foliage: medium green; elliptical leaflets, ruffled and serrated, edged with a reddish line when they are young. Bloom: rarely solitary, mostly in clusters of 3 to 12 blooms; medium to small; double, quartered; some stamens visible. Colour: crimson-red, strongly shaded. Fragrance: moderate.
....The first mention which we have found is in the catalogue of Van Houtte of 1843.... In 1847, the nursery Guillot (Lyon) also lists it among their collection of Provins. Unfortunately, none of these sources gives the least description of it.
