Gorgeous & so beautiful. You are blessed with fluffy & rich black soil .. that's my goal.

wow!you can tell the type of soil merely by looking at a picture?I'm glad it's rich, but I am very ignorant of soils and I've been treading it all my life without knowing its type.

My minor in college was chemistry (major in computer science) .. so I'm always interested in soil chemistry. Black soil means it's rich in organic matter (humus). Light-color & loamy soil means it's chalky (rich in calcium). Reddish & loamy soil means it's rich in iron. My soil is very black (black-gumbo clay), and I use gypsum (calcium sulfate) to make my black clay loose & loamy.

We had tons of rain yesterday (flash-flood) so I'm looking for own-root roses that can handle flash-flood. Went out to touch the roses' leaves after heavy rain: Sutter's Gold could not handle acidic rain, leaves became thin & curled up, but Austin roses as own-roots love the rain. Gruss an Coberg has Pernetiana-genetics like Sutter's Gold ... these prefer hot & dry & alkaline & and vigorous as own-roots.

well that explains everything!I used to stink at chemistry.and maths.and physics.very nice that you have the knowledge to recognize and improve your type of soil! if you're comfortable sharing this, what was your major? yes, some of my roses have curled up leaves too!had no idea it was because of the rain!thank you. ps-if you like Orleans rose, you might also like Heavenly Pink and Dinky.I'm currently crushing on hybrid musks, such as Annelies,Jean Stephenne,Easy to cut,Penelope,Sibelius and Violet Hood. From what I've read, they're hardy, vigorous, healthy and floriferous. Can hardly wait to see how they'll do in my garden,as the h.musks I have so far are doing quite nicely.
