Gardening at Sissinghurst describes in wonderful detail the almost mythic garden created by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson. Tony Lord discusses the design, development, planting, and maintenance of Sissinghurst's famous garden rooms.
Tony Lord writes: During the middle years of the century, Vita's was one of the most influential voices encouraging gardeners to grow the old roses. She was guided in her early gardening days by E.A. Bunyard, himself perhaps the most significant champion of old roses during an age when they were all but forgotten...
Many people have made the pilgrimmage to Sissinghurst at one time or another. Others have visited it in books. Gardening at Sissinghurst embraces the best of both and describes the garden, its roses, how they are grown as well as how they are cared for and as such is an excellent book for rosarians everywhere.
