Bred by Georges Delbard (1905-1999) (France, before 1969).
Introduced in United States by Stark Bros. in 1969 as 'Betsy Ross'.
Introduced in Australia by Roy H. Rumsey Pty. Ltd. in 1973 as 'La Passionata'.

Hybrid Tea.  

Dark red.  Flowers are on the deep scarlet side of crimson.  None to mild fragrance.  Average diameter 8".  Large, full (26-40 petals), high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  

Upright.  Leathery foliage.  

USDA zone 5b through 9b.  Can be used for beds and borders, cut flower, exhibition or garden.  Vigorous.  Protect tender new spring growth from hard freezes that may cause canker, die-back and death of the plant. .  Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..
