My "the Prince" has turned into a climbing rose which blooms lusciously in May, the may bloom again in September. It has 2 canes which have been trained into our vinyl fence, about 5 feet high. Is this unusual for this rose? We live in St. Louis, MO (Zone 5)

I've read that the sizes listed for the English roses are for those grown in England, or in cooler climates, and that when grown in warmer climates in the U S the roses often grow considerably larger.

This has always been the case in my experience here in Southern California (Zone 9b). Every rose seems to get at least twice to three times the size mentioned in England.

How much sun does The Prince (Ausvelvet) rose bush need? Full or partial and the # of hours per day?

The Prince does best with at least 6 hours of full sun a day. But the plant must be situated so that it is completely sheltered from afternoon sun, as the blooms will quickly burn in any but the softest light. Ideally, the plant should be in shade by noon.

Hello Franz.I live in zone 6b near NY harbor - I just planted The Prince in a west facing location
which will give him about 6 hours of sun , but mostly all after 12 noon. ( maybe 1- 7)
Do you think that's worth a try ? I can move him to another spot with more shade . Diana
