I noticed that the leaves have a strong spicey scent too when you crush them!
I first posted this comment (on 8 may 10) at Officinalis, but it proved to be Tuscany, so I removed that post.

I've been a rose freak formore than half a century, and this is my favorite rose of all, ever. Any type, any era, period. First time I saw one in full bloom, I just stood and gaped.

For reasons i won't go into, I don't presently own one, but I plan to fix that very soon.
