Bred by Mathias Tantau, Jr. (1912 - 2006) (Germany, 1954).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1956 as 'Konrad Adenauer'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  Strong fragrance.  35 petals.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Growing:
USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .

From 1949 to 1963 Konrad Adenauer served as the first Chancellor of the West German Republic. He was born 5 January 1876 and died 19 April 1967. Adenauer was Time magazine's 1953 Man of the Year.
