Named for the founder (Canadian) of the Womens Institute [Elliott]

In September 1998, the Montreal Botanical Garden (Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal) carried out a survey of its roses' resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust. This is one of the outstanding varieties which showed a 0% to 5% infection rate. The data were taken on well-established roses.

One member emails the following about this rose: Despite what the Montreal Botanical Garden says, 'Adelaide Hoodless' is notorious for being susceptible to blackspot in other geographical areas than the Canadian prairies.

Also from the Internet: Pruning for 'Adelaide Hoodless' is only required when encouraging a more floriferous blooming cycle, or when removing deadwood. This rose is extremely popular here in the Canadian Prairies, in our cold climates with short seasons, with little to no care or maintenance.

('Adelaide Hoodless' is classified as a floribunda) MR12 has 'Fire King' x ('J.W. Fargo' x 'Assiniboine'), parentage as in Ag Canada Winter Hardy Roses (Pittao)
