Roy and Heather Rumsey, NSW.  New Roses.
Mercedes (Kordes): Hybrid tea type floribunda. Exceptionally long-lasting blooms with an ability to hold which has hitherto been unknown in a rose. Buds are well filled, opening to medium-sized well-formed flowers, lightly scented. The permanent colour is a shining 'Grenada' red. Large temperature differences in the garden produce a dark edging of the petals. The plant is strong growing, well branched, and quick to regenerate. For these outstanding qualities, the long-lasting blooms, the beautiful colour and the ability to maintain the shining colour through the long season, this rose is superb. Holds fourteen days or more.
