‘Perle d’Or’/’Yellow Cécile Brünner’: Polyantha.

Seedlings from the rose 'Perle d'Or' were mostly climbers with the odorata type of glossy leaves and what I saw convinced me that the usual cross suggested with multiflora as one of the parents, is incorrect.

Perle d'Or ('Yellow Cécile Brunner') China (some say Polyantha) bush. Description... small urn-shaped buds open to double narrow-petalled blooms of honey-pink, 1.5 in (4 cm) across... Dubreuil (France) 1883.
Book  (Nov 1994)  Page(s) 141.

'Perle d'Or'. Dubreuil, France, 1883. Rosa multiflora (or dwarf form or hybrid) × 'Mme Falcot, a yellow Tea Rose. This is a more vigorous, leafy plant than MIle Cécile Brunner', and old plants achieve 4 feet in height and width. I have seen particularly good ones in Cambridge Botanic Garden and in Walberswick churchyard, Suffolk. The wood is rather more prickly and more stout, the leaves rather richer in colour, the flower-heads have stouter stalks and more, larger flowers with more petals. (Plate 88) In shape this rose does not quite equal 'MIle Cécile Brunner', although it is exceedingly good. The buds have not the H.T. perfection of outline and the inner petals, of which there are many, are narrow and often folded. In colour the young bud is rich, warm yolk-orange opening to a paler salmon shade heavily mixed with cream. Deliciously scented. The colour and the narrow central petals are the main distinguishing features from 'Mile Cécile Brunner.
