Macrantha [note: listed in Shrub Roses Of the Twentieth Century]
One of the most prolific and thrifty of shrubs, making an intricate tangle of arching branhes set with small prickles and bearing neat leaves. The flowers are borne in small clusters and are large, single, of cream-pink fading to nearly white from a pink bud, with conspicuous stamens...deliciously scented....The round, red heps create a display. 5 feet by 10 feet. This rose of uncertain origin is sometimes made a variety of Rosa waitziana, the name for the cross between R. canina and R. gallica, but if that is so our present plant is some generations removed from the original cross.
