ROSA HUGONIS FLORE PLENO.

R. xanthina. This rose ranges from Afghanistan to China, and at one time was thought by Lindley to be a form of R. hemispherica. At one time it was cultivated in the gardens of this country, but like many of the old Species it disappeared. I found it growing in Northern Ireland, and Mr. Slinger very kindly gave me some eyes. It makes a lovely shrub Rose with bright yellow blooms and serrated green leaflets; glabrous on both sides. Fruits a dull red. Lovely both as a flowering and foliage specimen. [no author given]

R. xanthina, Pekin Rose, Korean Rose. - (Xanthina means yellow). Very hardy. The shoots have prickles all of one kind and not bristles. Leaves slightly hairy beneath. Flowers yellow, double, semi-double, or single, often 2 inches across. Hips red. The following types are listed in the trade: Allardi, Lindlayi, Spontanea (single) and X rugosa.

Rosa xanthina seems to be as indefinite as to precise botanical position as is R. ecae. There is nothing indefinite about its beautiful semi-double blooms of brilliant yellow, coming in with the roses above mentioned and several weeks ahead of the Harison's Yellow, that it is frequently mistaken for. It is blamed on North China and Korea, and really passes as a double hugonis.

We can also grow the oriental shrub Roses in this country, including R. xanthina (the double Hugonis which blooms just as Hugonis passes)
