Origin:
Bred by Rudolf Geschwind (1829-1910) (Austria-Hungary (former), before 1894).
Introduced in Germany by J. C. Schmidt / Blumenschmidt in 1895 as 'Schneelicht'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub.  
Bloom:
White.  Average diameter 2.75".  Medium, single (4-8 petals), in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy.  

Height: up to 9'10" (up to 300cm).  Width: up to 6' (up to 185cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Hardy.  very vigorous.  can be trained as a climber.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
'Schneelicht' is single. If offered with double blooms, it is usually 'Mme Georges Bruant'.
