Autumn blooms larger, much more refined. No proliferation! Fragrance is intoxicating and everything you expect a red rose to be. Rich, old rose with sweet lemony notes and perhaps a hint of pungency you can tell in the sinuses. Prickles are radical. Handle carefully. 09/26/2022

June 2022, one year old. Grafted on multiflora. Impressively hardy its first winter. From Palatine Roses. Exceptional rich and deep classic old rose fragrance. Blooms are slightly coarse with some proliferation, but not too bad. Foliage a bit coarse as well and highly susceptible to powdery mildew, susceptible to black spot. Canes extremely prickly.

He's a prickly monster that I have become smitten with. Decent hardiness first winter. Good vigour. Excellent rebloom, always seems busy. The tall basal break is 7-8'+. It had bloomed with a candelabra, branched and grew again, then bloomed. Probably final flush for 2022. Today is September 26. I cut blooms to reduce weight. Autumn winds and rains have been frequent already. Multiflora grafted Palatine plant. Planted spring 2021. Z5b/Sunset 41 South Central Michigan.
