Public rose garden   Listing last updated on 08 Jul 2020.
Versailles, Paris
France

[From The Rose Garden, by William Paul, p. 17-18:] the most splendid collection of Roses in France was that in the Jardin du Luxembourg at Paris, when under the superintendence of Monsieur Hardy. Most of the plants there were of some age, and flowered profusely in the season. They were seen from the public promenades... [Monsieur Hardy] retired from the superintendence of these gardens some thirty-five years ago, and was succeeded first by Monsieur Riviere, and afterwards by M. Jolebois, under whose charge the Rose we believe now are.

The Roserie was destroyed during World War I. Today, only 8 roses bred by Hardy have been re-introduced in the garden.
