As you can see from the photo I posted, showing a hip of Nevada, what The Ultimate Rose Book says, i.e. “….It has been suggested that it derives from R. pimpinellifolia...” , looks very likely!

I have not seen any glaring attributes of R. moyesii anywhere on this rose, except for its general size. And the hips... very scotch-like...

All I know about Scots hips is that they are black. The three photos on HelpMeFind are all a brownish-red. What is it about the hips that tells you they look Scots-like?

Golden Wings hips are carrot orange. Here is a Nevada hip on HMF:

Yeah, it is not black, either.

The general shape, the way of maturity, the general size, and the way it blemishes, reminds me of the Scots hybrids.

But moreover, the fact that has little to do with Moyesii hip types, which are quite odd to begin with, and even the 2nd generation hybrids' hips they tend to droop. The photos of Nevada show upright hips, but not enough to know if its a typical pattern.

This Spanish beauty is a favourite, top shelf. She represents everything I want in a roseplant; my very idea of how a roseplant should look like and present itself. She has the right vigorous and bushy growth, sporting many canes. She may grow tall and wide like a wild species rose. As you may have understood, I favour the vigorous shrubs, climbers and ramblers rather than the choosy and delicate little hybrid teas. Unfortunately she is a bit exposed to the salty western winds in my garden, preventing her to show her full potential when it comes to height. I have tried to tie some of her longest canes to the neighbouring bush hopefully to prevent the winds to cause too much damage. All the same she is a wonder. When in full flush it`s like entering a fairytale. The name "Nevada" meaning snowcovered is a right one. Some flowers may take on a light pink colour though, usually in the autumn, according to the books. My plant may display light pink flowers throughout the season. She starts to bloom earlier than most roses and goes on almost continuously way into the autumn. In 2009 she sported buds and flowers as late as in December; only to be stopped by frost right before Christmas. The neat foliage may be a bit affected by blackspot from time to time, but she doesn`t seem to mind this at all. She just goes on like nothing had happened, so don`t think too much about it. So why don`t you get yourself a Spanish Beauty to embellish your garden?

May 15th 2010. May I add that the unusually harsh winter of 2009/2010 seems to have had no effect on this rose at all. That`s my rose.
