Deb has always been a Betty Boop (cartoon) fan. She saw an own root BB at a local nursery in 2000. I'm not a singles (I know... BB is semi double) fan but Deb was going to bring her home whether I liked it or not. I have come to like this rose. She isn't cane hardy but takes winter well and spring growth is as vigorous as any of our roses. Betty is among the first to bloom and she is a blooming fool. She has 100+ blooms per flush and turnaround time is fast, 4 - 5 weeks. The yellow in newly opened blooms fades pretty quick and stamen turn brown in a day or two. Fragrance is slight to my nose. Deb says fragrance is a little better than slight. Betty has been a well behaved bush and gets 3 to 4 feet tall x 5 feet wide. The bush looks full and is usually pretty symmetric without us shaping her.

Blackspot isn't a problem here. The only time I think I saw powdery mildew on her was in 2001 when Deb and I were working out of town and only got home on weekends. PM wasn't bad then. I was just surprised to see any on her.
