I finally have germination from some OP seeds so this shows fertility as a seed parent. I also have germination from Cape Diamond x Orantida and Orange Surprise x Orantida which shows pollen fertility. I also believe Joe Bergeson has had success using Orantida a parent as well so fertility as a parent is documented.

Spring 2016: I have two plants of Orantida. The smaller plant had about 10 blooms and the larger plant had none. Blossoms are a pretty single light pink. I'm using pollen again this season and also left about 5 flowers on the bush to see if it develops OP hips.

Unfortunately there were only two seeds in the one hip that formed from the single flower this season. The seeds are set up and stratifying in my fridge. Hopefully they will germinate this winter! Update: they have not germinated as of August 2014.

I also have seeds from crosses, where Orantida was the pollen parent, stratifying as well.

Update: several small seedlings of Lemon Spash x Orantida. Two are about to bloom while 3" tall. One is yellow and the other is a peach blend. The others haven't formed buds yet. The latter are a bit more thornier than the two that are about to bloom. Orantida is nearly thornless in my garden.

I'm going into my second season with this one. So far it has been completely disease free. Right now it's about 24" tall. The one bloom I've had so far was a light pink with 5 petals. No scent that I can detect. R. nitida definitely show its influence in this seedling. Great plant Kim. :-)

Thanks Rob! I'm glad you were able to freeze a flower on it. In all the years it lingered and languished in my garden, it never flowered. I send it to you and it blooms. Ingrate! LOL! Thanks for allowing me to FINALLY see a flower!

The one flower that I had has developed a hip that is ripening. I'm assuming this one is a triploid and wasn't expecting much in the way of fertility. Especially as the hip parent. Hopefully I will get some germination. Will keep you posted Kim.

It is a very attractive plant. The Oarangeade does not interfere with blackspot resistance I hope. Congrats on the bloom! Wonder how the f2 will look like.

There has been minor leaf spotting towards the end of the season. My rating is excellent for disease resistance. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of the F1s from this season's OP and planned crosses. Hopefully hardiness and resistance is carried forward.
