Hermann Kiese (1865 - 1923) was initially employed at J.C. Schmidt, but established his own nursery in 1904. He was succeeded by his son Wilhelm (Willi) Kiese. The nursery H. Kiese & Cie. existed until 1949.

[From Gartenflora, 1933, p. 116:] The company Hermann Kiese & Co., Tree- and Rose nurseries, Vieselbach-Erfurt, could look back to existence of 25 years on March 1 of this year. The company was established in that time by K. Kiese (soecialist of tree and rose nurseries) and E. Abelmann (seed specialist) and gained meanwhile a good reputation dometically and in foreign countries, especially by their rose breeding.

[From Thüringische Landeszeitung, 4 September 2021:] Hermann Kiese was born February 5, 1865 in Pomnitz (Silesia)...he came 1887 as chief gardener to to the company J. C. Schmidt in Erfurt. ...In 1906 E. Abelmann and H. Kiese founded their own nursery in Vieselbach. In 1908, this became H. Kiese & Co. .... After the death of Hermann Kiese on 9 December 1923 his son Wilhelm Kiese took over the company of his father. He continued with the cultivation of roses for a number of years. The business became "Baumschule Kiese" which continued until 1945. Wilhelm Kiese was interned in the KZ Buchenwald 1945 to 1949 due to his membership in the Nazi party. The operation was expropriated in 1949. The former site is now partly a garden area, partly the location of single family houses and of grassland.
