How often has one wondered about the personalities which lie behind Rose names, and from the character of the flower tried to picture in one’s mind the person after whom a rose is named. Mrs Henry Morse, known throughout the rose world, was raised by McGredy and named after the wife of the founder of the firm of Henry Morse and Sons. Mrs Henry Morse was the mother of Ernest Henry, William Arthur and Frederick, the present partners in the firm. Mabel Morse, the equally well known yellow rose, was named after the sister of the three brothers and Emma Wright (who is there who grows roses does not know Emma Wright?) is none other than the maiden name of Mrs Frederick Morse...... There are three nurseries, established about 50 years. One is at Eaton on the southern outskirts, and the other two adjoining on the north of the city; each is managed in particular by one member of the family, but all are combined in one happy whole.

Morse. .... his firm was responsible for the introduction of many of Wilhelm Kordes‘ finest introductions, such as ‘Crimson Glory’, ‘Orange Triumph’, ‘Korona’ and a number of varieties named after members of the Morse family. The most recent ‘Ernest H, Morse’, gave him great pleasure, especially when it received the Society’s Gold Medal.....His wife pre-deceased him and there was no family. He leaves a sister and two brothers, one of whom, Wm. Morse, carries on the business at Eaton, Norwich, where the firm began over sixty years ago.
