From the Rose Literature:
[From the American Rose Annual 1950
, p. 187:] Lens, Louis, Wavre-Notre-Dame, Belgium
The nursery was founded 1870 by Louis Lens sen. (1848-1923) as a forest trees and rose nursery at Sint Katrin-Wavre in Belgium. After the death of the founder, his sons Emile, Victor and Henri Lens took over. Hybridizing was the domain of Victor Lens. In 1930, the nursery covered an area of 100 hectares. Victor's son Louis Lens (1924 - 2001) followed his father in 1969. On June 13, 1991, the nursery was taken over by Rudi Velle and his wife Ann Boudolf and moved to Oudenburg near Ostende, where Rudi and Ann Velle had established their first nursery in 1984.
