Introduced in United States by Jackson & Perkins Co. in 1932 as 'Comtesse Vandal'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1933 as 'Comtesse Vandal'.

Bloom:
Pink, salmon-pink shading, yellow undertones, coral reverse.  Wine fragrance.  Moderate fragrance.  30 petals.  Very large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Upright.  Large, dark green, dense foliage.  

Height: 2' to 42" (60 to 105cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Hardy.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Possibly dedicated to Berthe Joséphine de Heeckeren d'Anthès (1839 - 1908), who in 1864 married Edouard, 1. Comte Vandal (1813-1889), General Director of the Post Office, State councillor. Her mother Ekaterina Nikolaïevna Gontcharova (1809-1843) was a sister-in-law of Alexander Pushkin, her father Georges-Charles de Heeckeren d'Anthès (1812-1895) killed Pushkin on February 8, 1837 in a duel. Her father, from Alsatian nobility d'Anthès, was adopted in 1836 by Baron Jacob van Heeckeren tot Enghuizen (1791 Zutphen -1884 Paris), Dutch ambassador at the court of Russia [the link for the Dutch interest in Comtesse Vandal?]
