An ancient Gallica cultivar preserved in the University Botanic Garden at Oxford, with well-scented flowers shaded purple in hot weather. Height: 1.3 m. The thick petals keep their colour and scent when dry.

Rosa gallica ‘Conditorum’ /nom commun: ‘Rose de Hongrie’ (Conditorum signifie: des confiseurs) = gallique… Introduit officiellement et nommé en 1889 par von Dieck, mais sans doute cultivé depuis bien plus longtemps. Naguère, on cultivait cette rose en Hongrie, sur une très grande échelle pour la production d’eau de rose et de confiseries diverses… description…

An old type of gallica, between Maxima [Officinalis] and 'Tuscany' in shape and colour and growth. A good bushy shrub up to 4 feet, very free flowering. The name leads one to think it may have been a popular variety for conserves. 4' x 3'. Recommended.
