One of Warner's 100 best climbers. There is some argument as to whether 'Aloha' is a true climber for it takes some time to grow more than 6 ft., but in time it will. The excellent foliage is large and glossy and highly resistant to fungal diseases. Flowers: large (up to 5 in across), pink with a terracotta centre. It flowers in June and again in September, with plenty of flowers in between. This is an excellent variety to take indoors as the flowers have a good scent and firm, long stems.

Description. Lots of dark, leathery foliage provides a backdrop for large, fully double (58 petals) flowers of rose pink with a deeper pink reverse. 'Aloha' is reminiscent of some of the best big fat Hybrid Perpetuals, but it blooms much more often. This climber is just right for a pillar or trellis, yet will also stand alone as a shrub. 6 to 8 feet.

(Description and culture) USDA Zones 5 to 7. Fragrant, medium pink... makes an excellent short climber or pillar rose. The large, cupped, very full blooms give an old-fashioned appearance that looks lovely in mixed borders with antique and modern roses and perennials. It can be pegged as a groundcover, and it looks especially striking spilling over a wall, where its beautiful, fragrant flowers can be shown to advantage.

Description. One of his fifty favorite roses ... One of the few American roses to have made the transition [to the UK] successfully. Can be grown as a fairly upright shrub to about 4 feet, or as a vigorous but not especially tall climber. The magnificent flowers of 'Aloha' have inherited many of their qualities from one parent, 'Mercedes Gallart'. (The other parent is 'New Dawn'.) The fully expanded blooms more closely resemble one of the old roses or a paeony than those of a hybrid tea. It can be slow to get started, but is relatively disease-free, though it may be susceptible to rust.

In his application for a patent for this rose, Boerner stated specifically that it was a pillar plant ... David Austin has used it in his breeding program .. very large (four- to five-inch) flowers composed of nearly sixty petals in various shades of pink, sometimes with a hint of orange ... [they] have a strong tea fragrance ... [dead-heading]: snip off the spent flowers at the first node; they will bloom again from this point on the lateral.
