Exhibition name: Duchess of Portland
Bred by Unknown (before 1775).
Damask Perpetual, Portland.  
Red.  Mild to strong, damask fragrance.  10 to 15 petals.  Average diameter 3.25".  Medium to large, semi-double (9-16 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered bloom form.  Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.  Leafy sepals buds.  
Armed with thorns / prickles.  5 to 7 leaflets.  
Height of 2' to 47" (60 to 120 cm).  Width of 2' to 3' (60 to 90 cm).
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  
Mike Lowe says Duchess of Portland is a Damask Perpetual and assigns it a date of 1782...
Parentage uncertain, see References for more information. The speculation that 'Slater's Crimson China' was one of the parents was disproved by DNA Analysis at the Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France.
