Earl of Dufferin  A splendid Rose, of a rich dark velvety crimson colour, shaded with maroon, of good size and excellent shape, and deliciously fragrant. It has been awarded several first-class certificates in Ireland and Scotland.

Messrs Brunning and Sons have flowered several new new roses during the present season.... Earl of Dufferin is a splendid rose of a rich dark velvety crimson color, shaded with maroon, of good size and form.

Roses Nouvelles .... Earl of Dufferin (Paul). Rosier vigoureux, d’abondante floraison. Fleurs grandes, globuleuses au centre proéminent, pétales recourbés, d'un riche cramoisi orné de rouge brun marron, coloris qui domine au cenre et produit un brillant effet. Non seulement le colorisest plus foncé que celui de Maurice Bernardin, mais la plante est moins sujette au blanc. On pourrait dire que c'est un Pierre Notting avec la coloration de la Rose Louis Van Houtte.
