This is simply an outstanding rose. It excels my zone 5a garden, and as I have read here and other places, it excels in other climates too. From the second week of June until late September it is a very rare sight not to have a bloom or two or three on it, if not more. Be forewarned you will spend some time deadheading this rose as it has so many blooms, but isn't that why we grow roses anyways? I have found the hardiness of this rose to be amazing, almost to hardy to the tips without any protection in my SE Michigan garden. I am also happy to report this rose is very disease resistant. In its four years of life I have yet to see any black spot or any other kind of disease on this plant. I could wax on and on about this rose as I am such a fan. It is my favorite rose, plant one, and it will probably be yours too.

I second your praise of this Griffith Buck shrub. Some years ago, a man came into a rose nursery here in the Los Angeles area, which was owned by a friend of mine. He said he had a rose given him by its creator and, after moving it many times as he moved, he was about to lose it. The man was a musician and he'd played at Iowa State University, where Dr. Buck taught. Both men loved music and both loved roses. Dr. Buck took him back to his green houses and showed him his roses. Before he left, Dr. Buck gave the man a plant of Earth Song. The man had the rose for probably fifteen years and had transplanted it numerous times. He was looking for someone to repropagate it for him so he'd always have it.

I came by a few days later to visit for lunch as I worked near there. Bob, the owner, told me of the man's request and I suggested he bring in as much wood as he could and I'd get it to Sequoia Nursery for Burling Leong to bud. The man did deliver the wood and I sent it to Sequoia. Two budded Earth Songs were retrieved from Sequoia a few months later. I kept one for my garden and I gave Bob the second for the man. Unfortunately, the man never left his name nor number and he never returned for his rose.

The Earth Song grew at the nursery for a few years until my friend sold it. I managed it for the new "owner" for a year until I determined it wasn't going to make it. I sold the second Earth Song to a customer who came in and recognized what it was. The first one still grows in the middle of my youngest sister's front lawn. Here, just north of Los Angeles, it is always in bloom. It gets watered by the lawn sprinklers; endures wind, high heat, nearly all day sun and just keeps on pumping out the flowers. A MOST satisfactory shrub!

One of the best of the Griffith Buck hybrids. Totally reliable in zone 5. Crown-hardy to at least 6 inches, someimes more, but springs back like gangbusters even after a hard winter. My bushes are almost 20 years old and still going strong. Can't go wrong with this one. -Paul
