NEW CLIMBING ROSE  - JESSIE CLARK. THE PINK GIGANTEA SEEDLING.
The many who have tried to establish Rosea Gigantea and have failed, will be glad to hear that in the new Rose - Jessie Clark - they have a fine pink form with a constitution that ensures success wherever it is planted. The large single pink flowers are most decorative, and last well in water; the foliage is dark green, and the young growths are richly tinted with red. It flowers very early, and, like Gigantea, starts to make its growth before winter is over; but frost does not seem to damage the pretty young shoots. It is a refined and beautiful flower, and the forerunner of an entirely new race of garden roses. Through the kindness of Mr. Alister Clark. the raiser, the proceeds from the sale of this sterling novelty are to be devoted to the funds of the National Rose Society of Victoria. Law, Somner and Co., seed merchants. of 139-141 Swanston-street, Melbourne, have been appointed distributing agents. and every plant sent out will bear the National Rose Society's label, to show its genuineness. The plants retail at 3/6 each, and there is no doubt that the Jessie Clark will create a furore amongst rose lovers.

From: The Australian Rose Annual.
Editor.  Roses of Australia.  A record of all Australian Raised Varieties.
Jessie Clark (Hyb. Gig.), Alister Clark, Vic.  - The colour is a much deeper pink than Sinica Anemone.  The blooms are twice the size, and more like a very large Clematis.  It is a cross between Gigantea and  Madame Martignier, the result being the largest single Rose in cultivation.
