Origin:

Bred by Samuel McGredy II (United Kingdom, before 1922).
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1922 as 'Lord Charlemont'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1923 as 'Lord Charlemont'.

Class:

Hybrid Tea.

Bloom:

Scarlet - crimson. Strong fragrance. Medium to large, full (26-40 petals), high-centered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Long, pointed buds.

Habit:

Well-branched. Dark green, leathery foliage.

Growing:

USDA zone 7b and warmer. Hardy. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
