H. R. Darlington. Some Roses of Recent Introduction.
'Golden Gleam'. HT. G. Beckwith & Son, 1926. This is another Rose which has not attracted me sufficiently to find a place in my garden, but some of my friends like it. The colour is buttercup yellow, which is said to last well, and be unaffected by rain or sun. The habit of the plant is stated as erect, some say of moderate growth. it comes into flower about mid-season, and also later, but has flowerless periods. It is a pretty and medium-sized flower, smaller than 'Golden Emblem' but a slightly better shape. Some think that it lasts well when cut, others that it is too thin to do so. It is claimed that this Rose is free from die-back and so may replace 'Golden Emblem'. If this claim is made out some may think it worth trying for this purpose, and towards this its very pleasing name may assist; otherwise I have some doubt as to it remaining long with us.

GOLDEN GLEAM. (H.T.) Raised by Messrs. G. BECKWITH & SON, Hoddesdon. Awarded a Certificate of Merit, Autumn Show, 1925. This is a Rose of the Golden Emblem type, but with a more pointed centre. There were only six blooms staged, but there was one from a shot out bud that stood out far and away beyond the others. The growth appears to be strong and upright, and the blooms a very good shape, but inclined to be flattish when fully expanded. The colour is a clear yellow, the edge of the outer petals delicately splashed pink. Fragrant. The foliage is a bright green, and slightly liable to mildew. The plant exhibited was robust; it should prove a good bedding variety.
