Does 'Angela' form lots of hips? I have cuttings of a rose that I suspect is 'Angela' and it was covered in hips. The leaves aren't quite right though... more rambler-like. Has 8 petals.

I planted this rose at the beginning of the season, having seen it in NZ, Tasmania and NSW, Australia, and loved it. NZ and Tas are both wonderful climates for roses and the examples I saw there were no more than 1.2 metres tall. The NSW shrub was about 1 m.
Mine, towards the end of the season, has a fountain of canes which are up to 2.5 metres long and growing. It is not a mislabel because the flowers are right, but its size is inappropriate for its position, to put it mildly.
Has anyone else experienced this/found a way to deal with it?

Angela gets BIG here, too. I guess it's a question of the milder climate encouraging much longer canes. I don't think you'll be able to make it as small as you want it -- pruning it after the first flush just stimulates more big growth over the summer. I'm afraid you may have to find another location for Angela where her robust nature won't be a problem.

Thanks Jeff. Winter's beginning here and I'm afraid Angela has just gone to the Great Compost Heap, having become way too big to mail bare-rooted to someone with serious space for her. Her main stem, by now, was at least 4 cm in diameter and I've never had more trouble digging a rose up.

I'm sad because her flowers are beautiful.
