Bred by Alexandre Bernaix (France, 1886).
Introduced in Australia by H. Kemp in 1909 as 'Polyantha Grandiflora'.

Hybrid Multiflora, Hybrid Noisette.  

Cream.  Strong, musk fragrance.  Average diameter 2.25".  Medium, single (4-8 petals), in large clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  

Armed with thorns / prickles, climbing.  Large, semi-glossy, medium green foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 9'10" to 32'10" (300 to 1000cm).  Width: up to 19'8" (up to 600cm).

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Can be used for garden, landscape, pillar, specimen or understock.  Hardy.  very vigorous.  a good subject for pegging.  can be trained as a climber.  drought resistant.  flowers drop off cleanly.  heat tolerant.  produces decorative hips.  shade tolerant.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant, very blackspot resistant., very mildew resistant, very rust resistant.  

Correct name is Polyantha Grandiflora - Silver medal in Lyon - 1886. Different opinions on parentage - see References. Breeding year 1866 is probably an error.
