Bloom:
Dark red and purple. Velvety. Strong fragrance. Average diameter 4". Medium, double (17-25 petals) bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer. Glandular sepals, rounded buds.
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 8b. Prune after flowering is finished. This rose blooms on old wood.

Notes:
Noisette lists 'Achille' and 'Louis XVI' separately. Hardy states that 'Achille' was bred in 1824 or 1825. Louis XVI, King of France. Born at Versailles 23 August 1754. Guillotined 21 January 1793.
