Is this rose 'Sodenia' ??
or 'Minnehaha' ??
The blooms are smaller than 'Dorothy Perkins' or 'Excelsa' and the leaves are larger.
Thanks

I think, it's 'Paul Ploton'

That's an interesting thought, thank you. Problem; there appear to be 2 or 3 different roses among the HMF photos for this name. The Sangerhausen one, which is red and therefore fits the plant description, doesn't look to have the lighter-coloured reverse that our rambler has.
Later comment; I finally read the references, which generally consider it carmine rather than red.

Dear Margaret,
You can see on my photo (ID 79951) the different tones between carmine, deep pink and light pink. I remember I’ve took this photo in a very bright day. We have to wait to the next bloom in October to see if my Paul Ploton has a lighter-colored reverse, I can’t remember.
Best regards from Argentina
Cristina

Thank you Christina. I am continuing this thread in the file I have just opened up for this founding: "Hawthornden Tennis Court South Rambler".

Thanks Chris. What is IT? 'Paul Ploton' or 'Sodenia'?
Glad to hear there is an expert around.

The Paul Ploton pictures posted on this site look nothing like Sodenia. I saw the Sodenia at Elizabeth Park yesterday. It is a darker pink with much more fullness in the petal department., very very full, no blousiness to it. It does have lighter pink overtones, also. Mine will be in bloom soon. Just got it this spring. It's a "happy" rose. chris

Dear Chris, Will you take photos? Will you note the leaves - are they typical wich, or are they like Margaret's leaves in the photos above in this thread? And can you note the timing of the main flush in relation to 'Dorothy Perkins' and/or 'Excelsa'.
With your help, we are getting closer to naming our foundling "Hawthornden Tennis Court Rambler" and I am a happy rosarian. Patricia

sodenia is now in bloom, but it is her first, not entirely predictive of when she will show next year. my dorothy started a few days ago. she is just a bush away.
sodenia is almost flat despite her many petals!
he bloom forms a flat circle, not a ball, or globe shaped bloom. and so far she is a carmine red (i was raised by an artist) with white/silver underside. i will let you know if her colorchanges with time. i was told that different ramblers bloom different shades during different years.

Mütze/Schneider (1924) and Lambert (1932) list Sodenia as a Wichuraiana-Rambler. Also Sangerhausen calls it a WR.
