Tea-Scented Roses and Their Hybrids.

Twelve Good Yellow Tea Roses.
Yellow in Tea Roses seems to be the popular colour, in addition to which the plants are, as a rule, of stronger constitution than those bearing mixed coloured flowers. More yellow than mixed coloured Teas by far appear in florists' windows, and in going through any large market grower's establishment one cannot but be struck with the predominance of yellow varieties. I am not depreciating the many beautiful forms other than yellow; I admire them as much as anyone; but for the guidance of those who, as producers, are obliged to study fashion in flowers, I give a list of varieties which will be found to give satisfaction either for growing in pots or for planting out in borders in ordinary Rose houses.
Medea, a handsome, full lemon-yellow canary-centred flower, is another reliable Rose of vigorous growth, and worthy of a place in limited collections. The bloom is extra large even when in the bud state.

New Roses. [...] Medea.—Tea. Perhaps the best clear yellow rose sent out for several years. It reminds one of a finely-formed Cloth of Gold. It is a first-rate variety for the exhibitor, and is unequalled for growing under glass. The habit is vigorous, but not climbing.

New Tea and other Roses. - We have the pleasure to send you a box of Rose blossoms by parcel post which we trust will be safely received. The hybrid Rugosa Mungo Park is a cross between General Jacqueminot and Rosa rugosa, and I send flowers of the last named for comparison. The other kinds enclosed are Sylph (Tea) and Medea (Tea). We have a high opinion of both these. - W. PAUL & SON.

*** The two Tea Roses are very charming. The hybrid is also interesting, but there is a vast difference in form and colour between such hybrids and the Teas. - ED.

Teas and Noisettes.
Medea (W. Paul and Son, 1891). — A new Rose, the cut blooms looking like full specimens of Madame Hoste: a good grower and free in flowering, but not likely to open well in wet weather.
Magazine  (1894)  Page(s) 83.

Medea was good in all nurseries. It is a full, well-formed double flower, clear in colour and of good form, of a pale yellow externally with deeper tinted centre. There seems to be alot of substance in the flower....

New Roses.
Every year brings fresh candidates for popular favour, and all Rose lovers are more or less interested in them and eagerly anticipate seeing them either at the shows or in the nurseries of the noted trade growers.  Many who never purchase novelties till others have tried and proved them manifest a desire to know what is new in order that their Rose knowledge may be up to date.  Mr. William Paul, of Waltham Cross, has kindly sent me a box containing buds and blooms of five new varieties.
Medea is one of the latest additions to the increasing, but none too numerous company of yellow Tea Roses.  Its first great merit is that of being a vigorous grower, and we know of all Roses, but particularly Teas, that if we can grow a good plant, flowers in abundance will follow.  The buds of this kind are charming in shape, having a full round base, but tapering gradually and gracefully to a high centre.  In this state they are of a pale lemon-yellow colour.  Expanded flowers become quite globular, are large and full, and deepen into a glowing shade of rich canary yellow.  If the coming season is at all favourable for outdoor Teas, Medea will make a good impression.
