Excessively vigorous… fragrant, deep crimson-purple flowers of Old Rose appearance … flowers only once …[Austin] crossed this rose with some of the seedlings from 'Chianti' … [and found] that the first generation roses were repeat-flowering. This indicated that 'Gipsy Boy' itself must have had at least one repeat-flowering ancestor.

Zigeunerknabe 'Gypsy Boy'. reaching 2 metres, this rose has a light fragrance and is a vivid crimson-purple. The plant puts out long arching branches which become smothered in flowers and the result is quite spectacular.
