Desprez á Fleur Jaune ('Jaune Desprez', 'Jean Desprez', 'Desprez', 'Noisette Desprez', 'Desprez á Fleurs Jaunes', etc.) Desprez/Sisley, 1830. Noisette. Parentage: From 'Blush Noisette' x 'Parks' Yellow'. [Author cites a tremendous number of sources.] An entry of particular interest from Les Roses, by Jamain and Forney, states: Such was [Mons] Desprez that, after being so often inclined while on this Earth to admire one of these most perfect works of creation [referring to rose blossoms], this fancier/enthusiast had brought to him, on his death-bed, one of these beloved roses, the one which bears his name, to take one last look before sinking into the peace of death.

[Henry Mitchell wrote in the Foreward to The Art of Gardening with Roses:] 'Jaune Desprez' was once one of the most prized roses in America, France and England. It was a favorite rose of Robert Buist, who sold it at his famous old nursery in Philadelphia.

p68. Dr. Judith McLeod from the Blue Mountains talked very fluently on the Noisettes mentioning such old favourites as Desprez a Fleurs Jaunes

We found from Pat Stemler-Wiley’s slide of ‘Celine Forestier’ that Deane Ross, Walter Duncan and I have been growing, ‘Celine Forestier’ and ‘Desprez a Fleurs Jaunes’ for years thinking that both varieties were very similar.  Well they are both ‘Celine Forestier’ and we have to re-import Desprez again.  They came out originally wrongly labelled and we have been fooled for all those years.
......Peter [Beales] also described the difference between the Noisettes ‘Celine Forestier’ and ‘Desprez a Fleurs Jaunes’.

From the same magic year comes another exquisite Tea-Noisette Desprez a Fleur Jaune of the same parentage as ‘Lamarque’.  It needs the gentler climate of Australia, the southern United States and the Mediterranian region to show this superb Noisette at her best and most vigorous.  The flowers borne singly and in small clusters open from pink and apricot buds to reveal large, very double, flat silky-textured blooms that are creamy lemon often flushed with apricot pink, peach and yellow.  The autumnal blooms are often the most exquisite of all.  They have a powerful and delicious fruity tea fragrance that equals the beauty of the flower.  It has few prickles, is well clothed with light green foliage and one could not wish for anything more beautiful than this rose in full flower.  Jack Harkness describes the flower as giving “the impression of soaking up the sun’s warmth and paying it back in a sleepy scent”.   In his Manual of Roses (1846) Prince wrote “It is so powerfully fragrant that one plant will perfume a large garden in the cool weather of autumn”.  This rose was sold as ‘Jaune Desprez’ and ‘Noisette Desprez’.

Dr. Judyth McLeod, Noisettes, the French Darlings.
Desprez a Fleur Jaune is equally superb.  It needed the kind of climate, I think, though, of the Mediterranian, Australia, New Zealand and the Southern United States to bring out the best in this Noisette.  It is utterly superb, very double, very flat, particularly fine in water, in silky cream yellow, shaded down with buff, peach and apricot, with an intense delicious fragrance.  In my open garden its beauty is, to my mind, indescribable.
